Why Do Lash Extensions Shed?

Why do lash extensions shed?

There can be plenty of reasons, some on the artist’s side and some on the client’s. Let’s break it down!

On the artist’s side

❌ poor-quality materials
❌ improper prep of the natural lashes
❌ working too slowly for the adhesive’s dry time
❌ the wrong room climate, chemicals in the air
❌ the wrong materials chosen for the natural lashes

On the client’s side

❌ hiding contraindications before the service
❌ taking hormonal medications or antibiotics
❌ using lash serums or oils
❌ not following the aftercare guidelines

The list could go on, but these are the main ones.

So how do you figure out why your lashes are actually shedding? You have to look at how they come off:

✔️ with your own natural lash attached, or without it
✔️ how fast they go, and how many

If the extensions shed in the first few days (1 to 3 days) after the service, mostly without your natural lash, then there’s a reason worth hunting down. But if it’s about 2 to 5 lashes a day total across both eyes, mostly with the natural lash attached, that’s completely normal, just the natural life cycle of your own lashes.
