To isolate the lower lashes, artists use special pads: hydrogel or collagen. They come in different shapes, sizes, and thicknesses.

It’s best not to use any kind of sticky tape, including medical tape, to isolate the lashes. It’s uncomfortable for clients, and it has to be peeled off the skin with real effort! If the pads slip during the service, use thin strips of medical tape to secure their edges, or try a different type of pad.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that when you isolate the lower lashes, placing a pad too close to the surface of the eye can cut the sclera, which is exactly why it’s important to learn how to place pads correctly.
