Your client's eyelids keep twitching: what to do?

The fix for twitching eyelids comes down to removing the cause.

1. The client is keyed up, maybe had a cup of coffee earlier or is just stuck thinking about her problems. Ideally, get your clients used to skipping coffee before the appointment, since it makes it harder for you to work and for her to lie still for the 2 to 3 hours it takes.

But if it’s already happened, try to relax the client as much as possible, put on some calm music, tuck her in with a warm blanket, and gently, quietly suggest she try to fall asleep. Try to head off any chit-chat, it’ll be easier for her to settle down.

2. Sometimes it’s just how a person is wired, and even in sleep the eyes keep moving under the lids, making them flutter. In that case you’ll have to be more hands-on, meaning physically hold the lids in one position. Some trainers suggest gluing a couple of upper lashes to the pad with lash adhesive for this, but personally I’m not a fan, because that feeling of tension can be really unpleasant for the client. And definitely no coins (yes, that’s a thing).

Money is the DIRTIEST thing in the entire world, literally. It’s the ultimate breeding ground for bacteria, you can’t even imagine how many hands touched that coin before you! The best option is a thin strip of microporous tape: gently stick one end to the eyelid, pull it taut (check with the client that it’s not uncomfortable), and stick the other end to the skin. The easiest part to pull is the middle of the eye, which many artists actually prefer to work on last.
